HMMWV: High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vechicle

The Humvee or rather, HMMWV (short for High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle) was created in 3D Studio Max around 5 years ago in 2007. I never used it for anything so I will be giving it away for free as a result. Do whatever you want with it, use it wherever you want, I don’t want to know.

The model was created using a plastic injection moulded version as reference, doing each part in 3D as I went along building the actual model. The Plastic kit was an Academy Kit, I don’t recall what scale (BUT it was microscopic on completion!)

Some of the well known elements are the 50 CAL as well as the smoke dispensers on the cab. Also note the concertina wire rolls on the back as well as on the hood. The decision to show the HMMWV on a diorama was due to the fact that it is easier to create visual impact if a small contained scene shows the main element off as the HERO or FOCUS area.

3d Model & Render of the Team Associated RC-10 Radio Controlled car chassis

The attached images were created in Autodesk's 3D Studio Max again - using the Quicksilver Render Engine on it's standard "Tech" setting.

This model was EXTREMELY popular around the RC track around the mid to late 90's and was often seen sporting 6 or 7-cell ExTech packs for juice.

From a 3D perspective the model was fairly simple to create. Even though being a complex mecanical engineering work in itself, alost all work could be done in simple primatives or spline shapes. Those in the know will reconize the Novak shape speed-control on the rear pillar.

More Blender Work

This is a take away coffee station - It shows a mix of the following render passes:
1. Diffuse
2. Beauty
3. Lighting
4. Ambient occlusion
5. Z-pass
The Z-pass determines the mild focal depth and is used in conjunction with the Photoshop Lens Effect filter. The foregound has a simple half tone effect composited with a screen setting. The
station is typical to that commonly found in and around Cape Town SA at a number of refeuling
stations.

Never underestimate the simplest of meshes: Low Poly Toshiba in Blender 2.61
Note the Bender Compositor window - Rendering becomes a joy being able to
Individually alter chosen elements without the need for extra applications. I suppose
The Sub-net method in Autodesk's 3D Studio will provide the same edit-ability, but
Then only in conjunction with yet another package with a dollar tag attached to it.

It is a genuine surprise to find a 3D package where the following features coincide:
1. Being able to stand on its own feet with regards to creating models & renders in a competitive industry.
2. Being free, while not forsaking point 1, as mentioned above.

This is a Barricade, typically galvanized metal, also, like everything else, in Autodesks' 3D Studio Max.

Roadblock

This roadblock was created in 3D Studio Max, referencing the photo taken 35km from Cape Town, SA.

Modular content: construction site set

Hi Again, here is a set of modular units with which almost any construction site or building site can be created or re-created. All the models were created in 3DS Max 2011. Work may or may not switch to Blender in the near future.

The models are all aimed at Indi Game Developers looking for a "kit" of modular elements for QUICK construction a variety of "arenas" be it the FPS genre or something else entirely.

Above is a local area power distribution box. This often feeds a small suburb. Created in 3D Studio Max, the model is low poly and can easily be incorporated into a large number of environments adding realism to the scene.

Here is a basic pump tower. All work was done in 3D studio & Photoshop. There is a diffuse map, an Alpha for the stairs, as well as a specular map for highlights.

humvee

Hi Guys, here is another render created for and published in NAG magazine. The model was created in Autodesk 3dS MAX 9. Post was done in Photoshop as usual. I applied grain as well as a water colour brush. Lighting is the daylight system with one or 2 hilight only omni lights

Here is a low poly tanker which i am working on at the moment, the excercise is in speed per frame rate.

hi guys, here is another pin art effort. The 5000 something pins were simply displaced with a scatter plane. easy enough for you?

This is a hearing aid i created for a character on one of the episodes of the SABC TV series, Stokvel. On the left is a mould made from 1mm black PST. The aid was formed of moulding clay
inside this.

this is a concept fruit bowl. the idea was originally a friend's however i created the 3d model and render. all work was done in 3DS MAX and Mental Ray
This is as far as the Apache Helicopter 3D model will go. Its time to take on a new challenge. The scene was rendered with Autodesk 3D studio Max via the Mental Ray engine utilising film grain and colour correction filters. No post production Photoshop work on this one. The Nag logo is inserted as this will be entered for the Nag magazing fan art comp.
the rotorblades and cockpit is completed. The next step will be a scene or environment.

This is a quick preview of the texture painting. The aim is to shoot for absolute photo realism. The model must be able to withstand close scrutiny from an educated viewer.

Here Is the AH64 with the UVW Unwrap in pgogress. The Tiled numbered map will show up any coordinate inconsistencies which may result in a stretched map. The red rectangle controlls tilt on the rotor blades.

this is my progress on the AH-64 Apache helicopter. Often helicopters are named according to their function for example: AH=attack helicopter. On the right is the missile pod not showing the
missiles. All work is done in 3DS MAX.
